Continuous medical services within SAMS

Mustafa al-Kabi, 5, lives with his four brothers and parents, in a camp in the city of Afrin, after they were forcibly displaced from Eastern Ghouta.
Without warning, Mustafa began to lose his vision gradually, which raised fear among his parents, who referred to more than one doctor without any benefit.
After advice from a relative of Mustafa's father, Muhammad, he was rushed to Bab al-Hawa Hospital, which is supported by SAMS.
External magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was requested, after which he was monitored by Dr. Mohamed Al-Jisri, a neurosurgeon at the hospital.
The doctor says: "The hospitalized child was reviewed with a story of complete loss of vision in the left eye, with visions of phantoms in the right, and through the MRI and clinical examination, it was found that there is a large hydrocele on the left side of the occipital region, pressing on the entire left hemisphere of the brain."
The doctor added: "The child was quickly transferred to the operations department, the cyst was removed and delivered without damage (if it exploded, it would have affected the brain tissue), the meninges were sutured, the bone slice was returned and fixed with small plates, and his condition after surgery was stable, praise be to God."
Mustafa did not need a mechanical ventilation device after the operation, and he regained consciousness quickly, and his father did not believe what his ears heard when he asked Mustafa on the second day of the surgery: “Papa, why did you turn off the light?” Where the vision began to return to the child.
According to the doctor's initial diagnosis, the child lives in an environment where some pets are present, and this is what led to the infection of this cyst in the brain, and this was confirmed by the parents.
