Under the slogan "With women's unity, we will achieve the democratic revolution", the Second Women's Conference in the Middle East and North Africa was held on Friday and Saturday, corresponding to July 30-31, 2021, in the heart of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. The conference was attended by about a hundred personalities and women's associations from various countries of the Middle East and North Africa, taking into account the rule of social distancing, while the rest of the participants were via the Zoom platform. The first women's conference was held in Diyarbakir in 2013.
The conference sessions focused on analyzing the current international and regional conditions in general, and the events in the Middle East and North Africa region in particular, including wars, conflicts and disputes in which women were victims of the first degree. The conference addressed the repercussions of the stifling crises on women, including displacement, captivity, assassination, displacement, and the unprecedented increase in violence against women. On the other hand, it was emphasized the importance of the remarkable rise in women’s struggles within the popular movements, revolutions and protests that most countries in the region witnessed.
Accordingly, and after discussing how to overcome the challenges faced by women, and transform women’s gains and existing opportunities into an effective force in various fields, the participants agreed on the following:
Announcing the building of a regional women’s alliance at the level of the Middle East and North Africa, adopting a comprehensive strategic women’s vision, based on the universal reference for human rights, and aiming to build a society based on freedom, democracy, effective equality, social justice and human dignity.
- Forming a regional women's committee that includes representatives at the national level, concerned with defining the vision, goals and work strategy, and formulating the road map, within a time limit of six months. This committee adopts the implementation of the recommendations of the conference.
- Joining efforts to confront all types of occupation and the extermination of women, and their repercussions of: human trafficking, forced displacement, demographic change, political assassinations, the spread of illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, marginalization and exclusion.
- Combating the authoritarian patriarchal mentality with all its tools, institutions and repercussions on the situation of women, including: cultural heritage, customs and traditions, excluding women from decision-making positions.
- Expanding relationships horizontally, and working on introducing different cultures.
- Commemorating the national female symbols.
- Working to achieve a balance between the local, regional and global levels, networking and exchanging struggle experiences.
- Combating all forms of extremism (religious, intellectual, national and others).
Long live the regional women's movement
Long live the global women's movement!
Long live the women's unit to achieve the democratic revolution.
