Together to eliminate all forms of violence against women

Together to eliminate all forms of violence against women

With pain, we live this day every year and we see violence against women still prevalent in all parts of the world, especially in countries that suffer from armed conflicts.

And here we are living as Syrians in the tenth year since the outbreak of the armed conflict in Syria, and as a result of which Syrian women have suffered from tragedies of repression, loss, displacement, and miserable economic conditions after they went outside by side with men in the Syrian revolution in 2021 dreaming of justice, freedom, and dignity.

Syrian women have been subjected for decades to what all citizens have been subjected to under the weight of totalitarian tyranny, but their oppression was doubled by depriving them of their rights.

Women activists were subjected to murder, arrest, torture, expulsion from work, and travel bans.

Although there are no accurate statistics, we can say that there are thousands of female martyrs, tens of thousands of female detainees and missing persons, tens of thousands of widows and bereaved, millions of displaced women and refugees, and tens of thousands who have lost the breadwinner of their families, without having previously been qualified to practice any work that would provide them with their strength and the livelihood of their children.

All forms of oppression are still practiced on women, whether in areas controlled by the regime or areas controlled by the de facto authorities, where women are kidnapped, arrested, and forcibly disappeared without knowing their fate, and they are deprived of the most basic human rights to a decent life.

Syrian women in displacement and refugee camps suffer miserable living conditions, are subjected to exploitation, underage girls are married off, girls are deprived of education, and girls are subjected to forced conscription in SDF-controlled areas.

We, as feminist activists, reject violence in all its forms and strive to bring peace and security to our country and the world. We have struggled for several years against male political tyranny, and we are still striving for the establishment of a modern, democratic civil state based on equal citizenship, where all citizens are not discriminated against based on gender, race, or religion. Their rights, and laws that do not discriminate and criminalize violence against them, against children, and against any human being in general, a state that allows space in its constitution and laws for real and effective participation of women in all areas of political, economic, social and cultural life.

We did not, and will not, and will not oppose any peaceful solution that spares the pure blood of the Syrians, and preserves for our country its independence, unity, and sovereignty over all its lands, a homeland for all its children without discrimination and discrimination.

Discrimination and without division on any basis, but at the same time we seek justice, which ensures that all those who have committed crimes against the Syrian people are brought to a fair and impartial trial.

We have pledged ourselves to stand by every woman subjected to any violation kind, support women as much as we can, and seek accountability for the perpetrators of violations.

We will devote our efforts this year to a campaign against the heinous crimes committed in the name of honor in all Syrian regions and countries of asylum, and raise our voices loudly to hold the perpetrators accountable and not impunity.

We will not lose hope on a day when our people will regain their freedom, dignity, and right to a decent life, on their homeland, when women will stand side by side with men to restore the destroyed structures, restore national cohesion and the bright face of our dear country.
