The Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council in the Syrian context

Full report bellow

The International Law Support Unit of the Syrian Legal Development Programme (SLDP) is pleased to launch its updated Handbook on "The Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council in the Syrian context".

This expanded and updated version includes inputs until December 31st, 2021. The Handbook seeks to be a theoretical and practical framework for utilising these procedures in the Syrian context. SLDP hopes that Syrian NGOs working on the human rights situation in Syria and the places where Syrian refugees are located will benefit from this Handbook.

The first section of the Handbook provides a brief overview of the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council, their working methods, and the role that Syrian NGOs can play with the Special Procedures to maximise their impact. The second section reviews eighteen Special Procedures, which the International Law Support Unit considers the most relevant to the current Syrian context. Each subsection relating to one of these procedures contains information on the mandate, applicable international standards, activities related to Syria, and the process of communication with each.

The updated Handbook is available in both Arabic and English. In addition, SLDP is proud to produce, for the first time, an audio version of the Handbook in Arabic to be accessible to people with visual disabilities.
