Opening a blood bank at Al Dana Hospital for Gynecology

SAMS has recently opened a blood bank in Al-Dana Hospital, which specializes in gynecology and children, where it provides a service to secure units of whole blood and its derivatives (packed red cells, fresh frozen plasma, and platelets) for patients admitted to the hospital and who need transfusions of blood and blood derivatives.
Dr. Sulafa Qandil, postgraduate studies in laboratory medicine, says: “The opening of the blood bank saves the auditors the trouble of securing these units, speeds up the provision of medical services to the patient in the fullest way, and facilitates the doctor’s work. In addition, it ensures the safety and security of the blood transfusion process, as the The bank provides blood collection services from donors with full documentation of their data and the possibility of communicating with them later in case they have diseases and informing them of that.”
The blood is stored according to the internationally recommended conditions and protocols, and requests for blood transfusion are received internally from hospital departments and externally as well as from other hospitals as possible. As well as the necessary tests to confirm the compatibility of blood before transfer.
The opening of the blood bank in the hospital is a qualitative step in the region, as it provides blood with all its derivatives to patients and many emergency cases, in addition to serving the bleeding operations that need to arrange blood transfusions as quickly as a life-saving measure.
