Explain the importance of the health work of midwives on International Day of the Midwife

On the International Day of Midwives, SAMS emphasizes the importance of their work, and wishes success and lasting success for all midwives at SAMS Medical Technical Institute and SAMS facilities, and in all medical facilities in Syria.
1. The midwife has a vital and important role in providing high-quality health care to women and their newborns, during pregnancy, during labor and delivery, and in the postpartum period.
2. Skilled midwives make the difference between life and death for a large number of women and children, especially in humanitarian contexts that are considered the most difficult conditions in the world.
3. However, there is a significant shortage of midwives around the world, and of support directed to them, especially in areas of conflict that are weak, fragile and limited in resources. Therefore, SAMS works in cooperation with partners to improve the level of midwifery services, support medical training and education efforts, and provide supplies and materials for institutes that study midwifery;
4. SAMS has supported its Medical Technical Institute (currently in the town of Atarib) since 2017, which includes an advanced academic program in midwifery, and nearly 85 midwives have graduated from it, all of whom are academic midwives qualified to work, as nearly 70% of them have joined projects Employment developed and supported by SAMS, following their graduation, as midwives under supervision within health facilities that provide specialized reproductive health services.
