Providing psychological support to a Syrian mother suffering from psychological disorders

After she had to leave her area in Syria due to the war, Marah "38 years" sought refuge in Turkey to escape death. Marah lives with her three children and her husband, "I suffer from psychological disorders, my unstable mood affected my life, which led to problems with my husband, I am worried about my children I don't take care of them in the right way," says Marah sadly, during her first visit to SAMS Psychotherapy Center in Gaziantep.
Marah, a graduate of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Syria, was suffering greatly as a result of displacement and asylum. After visiting our center, and based on the initial evaluation of our specialized teams, it was found that she suffers from severe fear of suffocation, shortness of breath, sleep problems, gnashing of teeth, constant crying, low self-esteem, panic attacks and social isolation, and the initial diagnosis determined that she suffers from “depression.” chronic"
The treatment plan for Marah began, building trust with her, and educating about anxiety and its symptoms, and she was referred to the psychiatrist, who, in turn, decided that there was no indication for pharmacological intervention.
It was agreed to conduct fun sessions in our center, exercise relaxation mechanisms for the respiratory system and muscles, and encourage the reactivation of the social network around it, while enhancing self-confidence, self-esteem and sleep regulation through teaching healthy sleep techniques.
After conducting regular sessions at a rate of one session every two weeks over a period of 3 months, 80% of the symptoms of anxiety and tension disappeared, and Marah was able to mingle and participate in social activities, while her sleep improved and self-esteem returned by focusing on her strengths
According to our specialized team, Ms. Marah has improved greatly, and our cadres confirmed that the doors of the center are open to her at any time she needs help
"No more fear, no more isolation, I don't have enough words to thank you for your great efforts in providing such wonderful mental health and psychosocial support services" says Marah
