Paris - A statement issued by the Syrian Network for Human Rights:
Thursday / March 17 / 2022: At the invitation of the Syrian Students Union at Sabah Al-Din Zaim University - Turkey, the Syrian Network for Human Rights, represented by its Director, Mr. The human rights aspect, documenting human rights violations and the principles and foundations of defending human rights, and its contribution to preserving the rights of victims and the path of accountability and transitional justice.
Abdul-Ghani began his speech by saying, “Our battle with the Syrian regime consists of multiple battles, political, military, media, economic, human rights, and the human rights aspect is what I can talk about today.” He added, “The Syrian Network for Human Rights was established in June 2011 as a result of due to the systematic increase in human rights violations in Syria and with the aim of contributing to preserving the rights of victims and defending them.” He stressed the importance of demanding all rights stipulated in international covenants and charters, and the commitment of all parties to the rules of international humanitarian law and human rights law. He pointed out that the process of documenting human rights violations in Syria is one of the most difficult and complex in the world, in light of the exceptional circumstances and conditions during which the documentation process takes place.
Abdul Ghani talked about the importance of building a wide database of human rights violations in Syria, and the importance of reflecting them in human rights reports, and reviewed graphs of the outcome of the most prominent human rights violations in Syria since March 2011. In international courts or before courts in countries that support the principle of universal jurisdiction, he touched on the judgments that have been passed, the current cases, and their importance, without raising the ceiling of expectations, and without diminishing their importance.
This participation comes within the framework of the efforts of the Syrian Network for Human Rights to disseminate and strengthen a culture of human rights, support efforts to document violations and reports based on them, and raise awareness of the importance and centrality of the role of victims and the need for Syrian society to cooperate in order to expose those involved, hold accountable the perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity and fight the culture of impunity .
