Statement by the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression at the Human Rights Council held in Geneva
The center’s statement as part of the discussion of the fourth item on the agenda of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, delivered by the Director of the Communication and Advocacy Department, colleague Danny Al-Baaj:
While we value the efforts of the International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, and support its recommendations, we stress that its mandate cannot be completed without referring its findings to a credible international trial. In the crimes committed, and since the Russian Federation’s repeated use of the veto in the Security Council obstructs the Council’s efforts to end the state of impunity in Syria, we call for serious consideration, adopting the “Union for Peace” mechanism, similar to the way of dealing with the Russian aggression against Ukraine To end the inactivity of the Security Council, and thus end impunity in Syria.
