What Does the Civil Society Association (CISST) Do in the Penal Execution System?
CISST monitors prison conditions to ensure fundamental rights and freedoms for all prisoners, to be treated with dignity, and to access relevant application mechanisms when they need it, and conducts advocacy work for improvement in this regard. Since 2009, she has also been working on prisoners with special needs. In this context, it focused on the rights of women, children, LGBTI+, foreign nationals, aggravated life sentences, disabled, elderly, workers and prisoners with health problems. Collects data by using tools such as prison monitoring visits, correspondence, CİSST hotline, lawyer visits, interviews with families, human rights applications for the investigation and termination of the violation made to official institutions, applications for information, question papers, media review, and makes applications for the investigation of allegations, conducts advocacy and lobbying activities for the elimination of violations and the elimination of grievances. It reports the findings gathered from the field and brings it to the attention of relevant institutions in Turkey and in the international community.
