Workshop on "Advanced Empowerment of Citizenship Issues"

Workshop on "Advanced Empowerment of Citizenship Issues"

The Citizenship Association, in partnership with the Euro-Mediterranean Feminist Initiative, held a workshop on "Advanced Empowerment of Citizenship Issues" within the "Right to Participate in Change" program.

On the first day of the workshop, Hanad Al-Shahf focused on the history of citizenship, values and principles as well as identity and cultural diversity. He emphasized that "cultural diversity is an enrichment rather than a source of conflict."

Dr. Ali Murad focused, on the second day, on secularism and democracy. He explained that "the possibility of restoring authority and accountability are two main conditions for democracy," adding that "the intervention of religion into politics threatens the principle of equality."

Sabah Al-Hallaq, on the other hand, stressed "the need for a new constitutional framework that commits to achieving equality between male and female citizens, and for which the International Bill of Human Rights is a main reference."
