SAMS operates a Dental Clinic in Bardarash Refugee Camp, #Iraq, home to approximately 18,000 Syrian refugees who have few options for basic medical care. Jihan, who lives with her three children at a refugee camp in Baradash, came to the clinic for treatment during the campaign suffering from untreated dental decay that left her embarrassed to smile. Dr. Hanan Ahmed, lead dentist at SAMS' clinic and former medical mission volunteer, examined the tooth and treated Jihan, providing a cosmetic filling along with an extraction. “After the filling that SAMS provided, I felt the confidence to speak and smile with people again,” Jihan explained after receiving treatment. In total, 4,700 underserved individuals from 895 households received treatment. Dental care is an essential health service, and SAMS will continue to provide this much-needed care to those who struggle to access or afford it.
