In January 2014, “Women Now” opened the first of its four centers for women’s empowerment in areas of great conflict and deprivation for Syrians: Idlib and Ghouta in Syria and Bekaa in Lebanon. In 2015, we opened four more centers in Idlib, Ghouta, and the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon.

Most of our activities take place in women's centers, which provide a safe space for them, in addition to providing various services.

We at Women Now for Development see the struggle for women's rights as a large-scale (comprehensive), multi-layered and gradual process, especially in the context of war and atrocities. We also see that the struggle for women's rights cannot be separated from the struggle for peace and democracy.

This process should include men and young adults. It should also be based on a needs-based approach, as well as a rights-based approach, and based on the grassroots, starting with the most vulnerable and invisible women. It should work to define women as actors, not just victims, to allow for the true democratic participation of women, because these women are the real actors on the ground against violence and terrorism.

Local Syrian women are agents of change to build resilience to extremism, violence, and conflict when they are empowered with self-confidence and knowledge.

The process consists of four main axes: protection, empowerment, political and social participation of women, research, and advocacy.
