Our mission
The Syrian Archive aims to support human rights defenders, investigators, lawyers, and citizen journalists; In their efforts to document human rights violations in Syria and around the world, by developing new open-source tools, as well as offering a transparent and repeatable methodology for collecting, preserving, verifying, and analyzing visual documentation from conflict areas. We believe that transparent, detailed, and reliable visual documentation of human rights violations is a major step toward achieving accountability; and contributing positively to post-conflict reconstruction and stability. Such documentation has the potential to humanize victims, reduce areas of disagreement over death tolls, help societies understand the human costs of war, as well as advance justice and reconciliation efforts.
Our vision
By collecting, organizing, and analyzing visual evidence of human rights violations on Syrian soil, the “Syrian Archive” aims to save the data as digital memory, and to create a verified database of human rights violations in Syria. Through this, the “Syrian Archive” seeks to be one of the tools that contribute to the application of Justice and enhancing accountability as a concept and as an application in Syria.
